Introduction to IRD301 Vibration Meter
IRD301 is a Digital Vibration Meter. It measures overall vibration amplitude in Velocity in mm/sec RMS. It has been designed with simplicity in mind - it has just 1 button for Power On and Power Off. It was launched on 24 February 2024 - on the 62nd Anniversary of IRD. It has a rugged yet comfortable enclosure that is easy-to-hold. It uses a 100 mV/g accelerometer as its Vibration Sensor. IRD301 can be used by Plant Operation & Maintenance personnel as well as Condition Monitoring personnel to perform routine vibration level checks on assets such as Motors, Pumps, Fans, Compressors and more - thereby helping in Preventive and Predictive Maintenance and Helping Turn Maintenance into a Profit Center.

How to Install Battery in IRD301?
Follow these steps to install battery in IRD301:
- Remove 9V Battery from its packaging. Ensure no insulating material is blocking battery terminals
- If you have a voltmeter readily available - check whether the battery voltage is 9 V DC +/- 1 V DC or not (Don't worry much for this step as instrument has a LED which indicates if Battery Voltage is insufficient and battery needs change)
- Release the Battery Compartment Lock on the back side of IRD301 and remove the battery compartment cover plate. This reveals the place for installing the battery
- IRD301 uses just 1 9V Rechargeable battery. While putting it in place - take care of the positive and negative terminals of the battery and mount battery in proper orientation
- After installing the battery - put back the battery compartment cover plate and latch its lock in place to ensure the compartment plate is secure and does not fall off during use
- If above steps have been performed properly - then on pressing the Power Button on front of IRD301 once - the meter should turn ON
How to measure Vibration using IRD301?
To measure Vibration Amplitude using IRD301 - follow the following steps:
- Ensure you have the Calibration Certificates of IRD301 meter as well as IRD521 sensor being used. The Calibration Certificates should be valid and not expired.
- Use the supplied connecting cable to connect IRD301 and IRD521 to each other. The cables have guide vanes to prevent wrong connection
- Ensure battery has been installed to IRD301 and it is powered ON
- Place the Vibration Sensor IRD521 by hand or by extension rod (stinger) or magnet on the target surface where you wish to measure vibration. IRD521 is a Single Axis vibration sensor and measures vibration along the axis it is mounted. So, mount vertically if you wish to measure vertical vibration and mount horizontally if you wish to measure horizontal vibration.
- Wait for 3 seconds after placing the sensor to note the readings on the display of IRD301. The meter can read a minimum of 0.1 mm/s RMS vibration and a maximum of 200.0 mm/s RMS vibration
- After completion of measurement, ensure to remove sensor from target surface and power OFF the instrument and keep back all its accessories in its carry bag
