Introduction
This article serves as the User Manual for Digital Vibration Meter and Bearing Health Checker IRD811D V24 (Push Button Variant)
Introduction to IRD Mechanalysis Limited
IRD Mechanalysis Limited is a Condition Monitoring Solutions provider to the World since 1962. Also commonly referred to as 'IRD' and 'The Vibration People' - IRD provides Portable Instruments and Online Systems for Vibration, Temperature, Speed, Gap and Turbine Monitoring
IRD811D V24 is a Digital Vibration Meter and Bearing Health Checker. It is a Handheld Instrument that allows user to measure vibration amplitude and check rolling element bearing condition. Also commonly referred to as 'IRD811D' - it allows measurement of Vibration Amplitude in the following units:
- Vibration Acceleration in g pk. Minimum 0.00 g pk and Maximum 20.00 g pk
- Vibration Velocity in mm/s RMS. Minimum 0.0 mm/s RMS and Maximum 200.0 mm/s RMS
- Vibration Displacement in microns (um) pk-pk. Minimum 0 um pk-pk and Maximum 2000 um pk-pk

Technical Features
IRD811D works on 1 x 9V DC Drycell. It should be of 210mAh capacity or higher to ensure 10 hours of Continuous Usage. The Battery can be Non-Rechargeable or Rechargeable. IRD provides 1 x Uniross make 9V Rechargeable Battery in the Standard Kit along with its Wall Charger
We recommend using a Battery that has its Voltage between 8.2 V DC and 11.2 V DC. Ideal level is 9 V DC.
IRD811D uses an Accelerometer of Sensitivity 100 mV/g +/- 10% for Signal Input. Typically - the accelerometer in the kit is IRD521. It has a 2 Pin output that is fed to IRD811D via the 2 Pin MRS Connector on Top face of the Instrument
Display
IRD811D has a 3 1/2 Digit LCD Display. It shows 'LOBAT' for Low Battery Indication. It shows readings with 2 Decimal places for Acceleration and Spike Energy. It shows readings with 1 Decimal place for Velocity and readings without Decimal place for Displacement. It is easy to read even in Bright Sunlight.
Low Battery Indication
When the Battery Voltage drops to 8.2 V DC and lower - the Display of IRD811D shows 'LOBAT'
Coiled Cable
Each kit of IRD811D is provided with 1 x Coiled Cable. The coiled cable is 2 Core shielded. It has 2 Pin MS Female connector for Sensor end and 2 Pin MRS Female connector for Meter end. It has a collapsed length of 0.8 meters. It has an expanded length of 3 meters.
Cable used with IRD811D. This cable can also be used with other models IRD301 and IRD306DP
Magnet
IRD811D Kit comes with 1 x Magnet for supporting Magnetic mounting of Vibration Sensor. The Magnet has a Stud of 1/4"-28UNF Male that fits to the 1/4"-28UNF Female thread of the Sensor. The Magnet has a Safety plate to assist storage and movement. At the time of use - the safety plate must be removed by sliding. The Magnet is of 20kg Pull Strength. The weight of the Magnet is 60 grams along with its safety plate.

Care must be taken while placing the safety plate back as it may pinch the fingers
How to Operate
How to Power On
After inserting the required 9V Battery in place - press and release the On/Off button once (Don't press and hold) to Power On the Instrument. The Instrument always starts on g pk units and takes a few seconds (2 to 3 seconds) to settle down to its 0 level
How to Change Units?
After powering on the instrument - press and release the Units button once (Don't press and hold) to change the Units. There are 4 Units to select from - Spike Energy (g SE), Acceleration (g pk), Velocity (mm/s RMS or mm/s pk - as ordered) and Displacement (microns pk-pk). Please allow a settle time of few seconds (2 to 3 seconds) before taking measurement or checking 0 level.
