This article serves as the User Manual for IRD202 which is a Vibration Meter and Bearing Health Checker

Introduction to IRD Mechanalysis Limited

IRD Mechanalysis Limited is a provider of Condition Monitoring Solutions to the World since 1962. Also commonly referred to as 'IRD' and 'The Vibration People' - IRD provides Portable Instruments and Online Systems for Vibration, Temperature, Gap, Speed and Turbine Monitoring. IRD also provides associated services like Training, Consulting, Commissioning, Repairs and Calibration. IRD has its Head Office and Manufacturing in Thane, Maharashtra, India

Introduction to IRD202

IRD202 is a Vibration Meter and Bearing Health Checker. It is able to measure Vibration Amplitude in Displacement, Velocity and Acceleration in both Imperial and Metric Units. It is able to measure RMS, pk and pk-pk values. It is able to assess anti friction bearing condition via measurement of Spike Energy. The User can adjust the Date and Time of the Instrument and save the on-screen measurements with date and time stamp. The saved measurements can be transferred to a PC and viewed on the 'IRD202 Data Explorer' PC Software. The meter uses a 4000 mAh Lithium Polymer battery that can be charged via the USB C Port - that also acts as the Data Transfer port.

Technical Aspects

Dimensions of IRD202 Meter

IRD202 has a 2-part compact hand-held enclosure with sealing and with an ergonomic, robust design. Secure grip through finger recess in the bottom part. Recessed user area to protect the operating elements. It is made of Material ASA+PC (UL 94 V-0), Protection Class IP65, Color - Lava and has a dimension of:
  1. Length - 172 mm
  2. Width - 92 mm
  3. Height - 39 mm

How to Set Date/Time

IRD202 gives the user the ability to set the Date and Time. This way when the user saves any measurement - it gets saved with its date and time stamp. Even in Power Off condition - there is a Coin Battery which powers the Real Time Clock and the Date and Time of IRD202 remains updating. To set the Date and Time in IRD202 - the following steps should be followed:
  1. Steps if Instrument is Off
    1. Power On the instrument by pressing the Power On button on the Keypad
    2. Menu screen appears. Navigate to the Menu option 'Set Date/Time' using the Down Arrow key
    3. Press 'OK' to open the screen that allows user to set date and time
    4. Using the Arrow keys - set date and time as applicable. Up and down arrow keys change the value of the highlighted field. Left and Right arrow keys allowing moving to previous or next field
    5. Once set - use Back key to return to Main Menu or access other menus
  2. Steps if Instrument is On and User is in Vibration Measurement screen

Charging the Instrument

IRD202 has a USB C Type Connector on top that can be used for charging the instrument as well as Data Transfer. The instrument requires 5V DC, 0.5 A DC (2.5 VA) via USB C Cable to charge. Instrument charges from 0 to full in 8 hours at this rate. If a 5 V DC, 3 A DC (15 VA) charger is used - the instrument will fast charge from 0 to full in an Hour. Fast charging however affects battery health and we recommend normal charging rather than fast charging for most of the times.

Auto Power OFF

IRD202 will Auto Power OFF after 5 minutes of Inactivity if No Button is pressed by User. Please note this is Power OFF and not Sleep. After Auto Power OFF is triggered - User will need to Power ON the instrument again from Start

Data Storage

IRD202 can store 100 readings maximum. To save any reading - press the OK/SAVE Button on the Keypad once and follow on screen instructions

Input Sensor

IRD202 uses an Accelerometer as its Input. Any IEPE/ICP type 2 Pin Accelerometer having Nominal Sensitivity 100 mV/g can be used with IRD202. By default in the kit - IRD202 is supplied with Vibration Sensor model IRD521 which is 2 Pin and has a Nominal Sensitivity of 100 mV/g

Computer Software - IRD202 Data Explorer

IRD202 Vibration Meter is able to save Vibration Measurements and transfer them onto a Computer to its software - IRD202 Data Explorer. The connection is established using a USB Cable with one end being USB C for the IRD202 Meter and the other end can be USB A or USB C - depending on the type of Cable and Connector available with User. By default with the kit - IRD provides a USB C to USB C Cable. The PC Software is Windows Based and allows User to Choose Parameter (Acceleration, Velocity, Displacement or Spike Energy), Choose Units and then Connect and Collect Data. There are dedicated buttons for Exporting the received Data to Excel, Clearing the Data visible on Screen and a Button for Service Support.
