What is a Velometer in Vibration Measurement?

What is a Velometer in Vibration Measurement?

Velometer is a type of Accelerometer which gives a mV signal proportional to Vibration Velocity. It is different to a standard accelerometer because a standard accelerometer gives a mV signal proportional to Vibration Acceleration. Thus, the output of a velometer or its sensitivity is reported in mV/mm/sec.

Velometers are useful when the final overall vibration is to be measured in vibration velocity (mm/sec or in/sec) or vibration displacement (microns or mils). We use Velometers extensively with our Monitoring systems and Meters. Our popular vibration meter IRD306DP uses IRD531 as its Vibration Sensor. IRD531 is our Velometer providing an output of 4 mV/mm/sec.
