SHAFT VIBRATION MEASUREMENT
The two Non-contact pickups orthogonal to each other shall be mounted with supplied L Brackets. These will look at the shaft with a gap. There is no need to have a notch or elevation in the shaft. The air gap variation is converted to shaft vibration by the pickup driver and shaft vibration card of IRD8800 monitor.
AXIAL SHIFT / THRUST MEASUREMENT
The Non-contact pick shall look at the end of the shaft and there shall be a gap. The axial movement of the shaft will alter the gap and this will be read in the Axial Thrust card of IRD8800.
PHASE MEASUREMENT
The Non-contact pickup shall look at a notch / depression / key way / elevation at the shaft. In each rotation of shaft, the output voltage pulse change is sent to the IRD8800 casing vibration card for phase measurement. The offered Non-contact pickup is having a tip dia of 6mm the notch / key way width can be 9 to 10 mm. (>1.5 times tip dia)
A quick shop floor method to create a notch is to take an available key and mount it on the shaft with a good quality sticky tape. This shall not be a permanent arrangement but often used for quick solutions.
