How to check Calibration of IRD544 and IRD544M

IRD544 and IRD544M are Inductive Type Velocity Output Vibration Sensors. They are used in both our Portable Instruments and Online Monitoring Systems. They provide a voltage output proportional to vibration velocity and the output which is also called as the sensitivity is 42.52 mV/mm/sec +/- 10%

To check the Calibration of IRD544 or IRD544M, one would need the following:
  1. A Shaker which is able to generate a vibration of a known amplitude and frequency. The shaker must also be able to support a payload of 700 grams or more
  2. A multimeter to check Voltage Output

Please ensure that the apparatus being used to check calibration has a valid calibration itself. This will ensure reliability and confidence in measurement

The procedure to be followed for checking Calibration is:
  1. Place the Sensor on the Shaker and set the amplitude and frequency of the shaker. For our example, we take a vibration frequency of 100 Hz and a vibration amplitude of 1 g pk
  2. The shaker will then ideally generate a pure vibration (single amplitude and single frequency and no harmonics). This pure vibration will have a velocity of 11 mm/s RMS when shaker amplitude is 1 g pk and frequency is 100 Hz.
  3. Set your multimeter to read Voltage in mV AC and connect the probes of your multimeter to the two output pins of the sensor.
  4. The sensor should provide a Voltage Output of 468 mV AC RMS for this input vibration.
  5. Check whether the observed voltage on the multimeter is within +/- 10% of 468 mV AC RMS

If the Observed Voltage is within the tolerance, then the sensor calibration is okay. If the observed voltage is outside tolerance, then the sensor needs repairs and/or calibration
